     Cloth 101  The basic anatomy of a diaper is pretty simple. You need something to absorb liquid paired with a material that acts as a barrier for the soiled absorbing layer. This can be achieved in a number of ways. In a disposable diaper, the absorbing layer is a mixture of treated cotton and wood-pulp fibers paired with a gel compound that expands as it absorbs moisture and the barrier layer is a thin plastic-coated paper.
